The jump to 24GB of RAM is a stroke of genius. Windows overhead doesn’t choke my games anymore. Playing graphic-heavy titles is incredibly smooth with 8GB allocated to VRAM and 16GB left for system memory. Also, having two USB-C ports instead of that proprietary XG Mobile port is so convenient for accessories.

I owned the original Ally and the battery was its biggest flaw. The Ally X completely fixes this. The 80Wh battery lets me play AAA games for over 2 hours on performance mode without sweating! The new black shell looks much sleeker and the grip feels way more comfortable in my hands during long sessions.

The triggers and D-pad feel so much more premium now. The joysticks have more tension, which makes aiming in FPS games way more precise. The 120Hz VRR screen is still the best in the business, making even 45-50fps gameplay feel butter-smooth. Best PC handheld out there.

The battery, the 1TB SSD, and the 24GB of RAM easily make this a 10/10 upgrade. I docked one star because the massive battery makes the device noticeably heavier and chunkier than the original Ally, which can tire your wrists. Also, Windows 11 can still be a bit clunky to navigate on a handheld occasionally. Otherwise, it is the ultimate PC handheld.
